Pressure Compensation for Insulating Glass

Pressure Compensation for Insulating Glass

Reliable. Permanent. Proven.

Your Benefits

  • Permanent pressure compensation during production
  • Reduced stress on the glass and edge seal
  • Minimises optical distortion
  • Ideal for triple glazing and large-format insulating glass units
  • No on-site adjustment required
  • Reliable pressure compensation using the HELANTEC Valve

Differences in altitude between the production site and the installation location can create significant pressure differences within the cavity of an insulating glass unit. The result can be glass deflection, optical distortion, increased stress on the edge seal and, in extreme cases, glass breakage.

With the ISO-Altimeter PROFESSIONAL, HELANTEC provides a reliable solution for pressure compensation in insulating glass units. Each unit is pressure-compensated during production to match its final installation altitude – permanently and without the need for any on-site adjustment.

Pressure-compensated during production for the final installation location.

Why Pressure Compensation?

As insulating glass units become larger, triple glazing becomes more common, and transport distances increase, reliable pressure compensation is becoming increasingly important. Even an altitude difference of around 400 to 500 metres between the production site and the installation location may justify pressure compensation.

Without pressure compensation, pressure differences can develop within the cavity of the insulating glass unit. These may result in:

  • Glass deflection
  • Optical distortion
  • Increased stress on the edge seal
  • Reduced service life
  • Glass breakage

Why HELANTEC?

The ISO-Altimeter PROFESSIONAL pressure-compensates every insulating glass unit during production to match its final installation altitude. The HELANTEC Valve ensures that the adjusted pressure compensation is permanently maintained without compromising the insulating performance or gas filling of the unit.

As a result, the insulating glass unit is optimally prepared for its final installation location before it leaves the factory, eliminating the need for on-site adjustment.

Permanent pressure compensation. Reliable protection. Engineered for modern insulating glass.

Alternative Solutions – and Their Limitations

Capillary Tubes
For many years, capillary tubes were the only available method of pressure compensation. However, they create a permanent connection between the cavity and the surrounding atmosphere, allowing insulating gas to escape while moisture can enter the unit. This can reduce thermal insulation performance and shorten the service life of the insulating glass unit.

Pressure Relief Valves
Conventional pressure relief valves only open once a predefined pressure threshold has been reached. As a result, pressure differences are not fully compensated. In addition, repeated exchange between the insulating gas and ambient air can negatively affect the thermal performance and long-term durability of the insulating glass unit.

The ISO-Altimeter PROFESSIONAL provides permanent pressure compensation for insulating glass units during production. Each unit is precisely adjusted to its final installation altitude, eliminating the need for on-site pressure compensation.

Pressure compensation is becoming increasingly important for triple glazing, large-format insulating glass units, asymmetric glass constructions and projects involving significant altitude differences between production and installation sites. Even an altitude difference of around 400 to 500 metres may justify pressure compensation.

Maximum Process Reliability

To ensure reliable pressure compensation, the ISO-Altimeter PROFESSIONAL automatically performs a leak test after every pressure compensation cycle. At the same time, all relevant process data is recorded and documented, providing complete traceability and reliable quality assurance.

For short cycle times, all required production data can be imported automatically – for example by scanning a barcode on the insulating glass unit. This minimises manual input, prevents errors and integrates pressure compensation seamlessly into the production process.

Flexible for Every Installation Location

The system prepares insulating glass units for installation at both higher and lower altitudes.

If the installation location is at a higher altitude than the production site, a defined negative pressure is created within the cavity during production. If the installation location is at a lower altitude, a positive pressure can be generated using a gas supply, such as argon or krypton.

Each insulating glass unit is pressure-compensated during production to match its final installation altitude, eliminating the need for any on-site adjustment.

Designed for Everyday Production

The ISO-Altimeter PROFESSIONAL is a complete standalone system that operates without the need for an external PC. Its intuitive touchscreen interface, clear user guidance and high level of process reliability make it a dependable solution for everyday insulating glass production.
